Our privacy policy states what information about you we collect and store, why we do this, what it is for, and what rights you have over this information.

What Do We Collect?

At the very minimum, the information that we collect is the IP address and browser version of every user that visits this website. If you register an account on this website, we will also store your username, a cryptographically secure hash of your password, and your email address, if provided. Furthermore, any edits that you make to this wiki will be stored and made publicly visible, and this includes on your user page and user talk page.

Finally, we also store cookies on your local computer. These cookies are to help with operating the website. One example is that we use cookies so that this website can remember if you have logged in before so that it can automatically log you in again without asking for your password every time.

All of the above information is regarded as personally identifiable information, as defined by the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). This means that any of this information could be used to help identify you. Therefore, you have rights over this information, and we also have obligations to you in how we handle this data.

Why Do We Collect This?

When you visit any website, the IP address of the connecting computer (you) and the browser name and version is usually included in the request that is sent to that website. This is so that the website knows where to send its content to and what exactly it needs to send.

Here is an example of this information being logged by our servers (the IP addresses have been changed). The first line is an IP address at 0.0.0.0 requesting the Main page. The next line is an IP address 0.0.0.1, which is looking for a sensitive file on the server and it appears like it is trying to find weaknesses in order to attack this site. You can see exactly the sort of information that is collected.

0.0.0.0 - - [26/Jun/2018:19:50:50 +0000] "GET /w/load.php?debug=false HTTP/1.1" 200 55823 "https://www.vixrapedia.org/wiki/Main_Page" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0"
0.0.0.1 - - [26/Jun/2018:23:37:37 +0000] "GET /phpmyadmin/phpmyadmin/index.php HTTP/1.1" 403 441 "-" "Mozilla/5.0"

Our servers keep a log of this information so that we can monitor traffic and identify abusive and malicious IP activity. This information is not kept indefinitely and is not shared with anybody else, or used by us or anyone else for tracking or advertising purposes. Vixrapedia does not use any advertising whatsoever, for ethical reasons. Nor do we secretly track our users. We also do not conduct any third-party analytics of users visiting this website (such as Google Analytics). Indeed, no other company or website ever runs any content on this website, so you do not need to request information from anyone else but us.

If you register an account on this website, then whenever you make an edit to this website your username is stored along with the edit that you made. This information is made public so that anybody can see who made what edit. The reason we do this is so that everybody can see which author created which content, and also to help resolve disputes. We also use this information to help identify spammers and abusive users. If you do not create an account, you may still create content on this website, and in this case your IP address is stored instead of your username.

Finally, this website uses cookies to identify you when you login. The reason we do this is so that you don't need to login every time you visit this website. The way this works is that whenever you login to this website you are assigned a unique number and this is stored both on our side and on your computer. This is the "cookie". When you next visit the website, your browser sends us this number and if it matches the one that we have, you are logged in automatically. Because this number is unique to you and is extremely difficult for anybody else to copy, this number in principle could be used to identify you. To disable this cookie, you simply need to tell your browser to block cookies from this website. You should consult your browser on how to do this since each browser is different.

Our Obligations

Any information that you provide us will never be used to advertise anything to you. Neither will this information ever be shared with anybody else, unless for law enforcement purposes. The information requested by law enforcement officers must be deemed to be appropriate and proportionate. We will not willingly partake in government surveillance, censorship or retribution.

All the data that we store about you is stored securely and with restricted rights access. We try to treat your data the way we would want our data to be treated on other websites.

Your Rights

Regardless of what jurisdiction you live in, we will abide by the EU GDPR rights and regulations. All information that we have about you may be requested from us at any time and we will provide you with all the information we have along with a statement that this information has never been shared with anybody else without your permission within 14 days of the request at the latest.

If you wish for any or all of the information we store about you to be deleted we will do so within 14 days of the request at the latest. Note that this does not include edits that you have made to this wiki because they are released into the public domain (and are therefore made public, by definition). If you do want this information deleted, please contact us and we will try to help you do this if we believe it to be a reasonable request. An example of why we might refuse to do this is because you wish to hide malicious or illegal activity. In general, however, we will try to be reasonable.

To request your data, ask for data to be deleted, or if you have any questions or concerns, please email us here.
